From September 5 to 8, Prof. Dong Zhaohua, Associate Dean in charge of international affairs, joined the program orientation meetings alongside the academic directors of all the international programs—Assoc. Prof. Liu Lianlian, Assoc. Prof. Chen Muyang, Asst. Prof. He Jiani, and Asst. Prof. Xu Qinyi—as well as Ms. Liu Huayin and Ms. Han He, representatives from Sciences Po Paris in China.
On behalf of the School, Prof. Dong warmly welcomed the new students and gave a brief introduction to the history and development of Peking University and the School of International Studies. She encouraged students not only to pursue academic excellence during their time at Yanyuan, but also to actively step outside the classroom, engaging in field experiences and immersive exchanges to gain a multidimensional and authentic understanding of contemporary China. She also presented each student with a welcome gift—The China Yearbook (English edition), published by Xinhua Publishing House—encouraging them to actively learn about and better understand China.
During the orientation sessions, the program academic directors introduced the School’s academic resources, curriculum structure, academic support, and degree requirements. Staff members Yan Yan and Xu Jianchun from the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Office, together with Chen Fang, Wang Juan, and Tong Tianyu from the Office for International Programs, attended the meetings for each program. They addressed students’ questions regarding course registration, internships and thesis defense.
